FALL TEACHER TRAINING 2018

Life is yoga.  In this training you will learn how to bridge the gap between what you feel and how you move on your mat, and how you feel and how you move through your life.  You will learn the fine craft of weaving your everyday life into your yoga practice and conversely, applying the yoga on your mat to your everyday life.

It matters not, whether you ever plan to professionally teach yoga to other individuals. You are always your own teacher. And through simply being, you are a teacher to those around you. You can do this training for any reason–you are all welcome.

“Teaching” aside, this training will deepen your understanding of the physical asanas and their anatomy—in other words, your body. You will learn: the anatomy of vinyasa flow and standing poses, twists and back bends, arm balances and inversions, and hip openers and forward bends; how to teach a pose; how to create and sequence a class based on energy, life lessons, benefits or ailments; and how to physically assist in each pose. You will also learn the body’s energy system, or chakras and chanting; be guided through and practice meditation techniques and mindfulness-based stress reduction training; study the 8 limbs of yoga and yoga sutras, i.e. yoga philosophy; and learn concrete, accessible ways to put your yoga to work off the mat.

This training will give you the tools and techniques to teach (most importantly yourself).  You will go beyond simply learning the fundamentals and mechanics of the physical asanas, beyond learning to say inhale do this and exhale do that.  You will learn, explore and practice the ability to live and to teach the 8 limbs of yoga, to teach from your day.  You will learn, explore and practice finding your own voice and your own unique style of teaching. You will be challenged to unearth unapologetically, the 100% YOU.

This process begins with exploring your life, experiences, and raw, honest emotions like fear, guilt, love, pain, loss, happiness, laughter, and everything in between. It transitions through learning and being willing to access and feel these pieces of you and your life through your mind, heart and body in the asanas—your physical practice of yoga—and applying breath and the other limbs of yoga to whatever is arising within you. It becomes the art of connecting the poses and sensations that arise on your mat to the experiences and challenges that arise in your everyday life and vice versa. It becomes the real practice of yoga: fusing the heart, mind, body and soul through physical, everyday practice on and off your mat. And it evolves into the art of giving: empowering yourself and those around you by teaching the practice of yoga through the practice of your life, in or outside of a studio.

Post training you and your fellow trainees will teach and assist a community class for 3 months. This will afford you the chance to see if you enjoy teaching in the studio setting and to begin building your resume if you do.

Start living your practice.

  1. I am afraid I’m too late for this round of teacher training but was wondering when another one might be held?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Caroline-

Just an fyi in case you didn’t see the post….we are opening up a small group yoga teacher training (200hr Yoga Alliance curriculum) that starts this Spring in addition to the training we hold every fall. We’re doing a longer training, limiting it to 10 people and modifying the schedule to fit students’ busy schedules.

      Hope all is well!
